The found wood most likely comes from trees that have fallen into the two rivers that border Seawald Beach at Small Point, Maine; the tide and especially storms tumble the wood as it flows into the Atlantic and sinks to the bottom -- some of it washes up into the tidal pools, most often with their edges rounded like beautiful rocks. My sense is all I need to do is honor these pieces of wood by "offering" them back to the world -- in this way they can live anew. The wood is saturated with pure beeswax, encaustic and pigment -- this adds longevity.

Pulse Cafe, June 12, 2016
On this day I was driving to Maine for my annual 2-week art camp when I got a call from my daughter Marina in tears --- she told me there had been a mass shooting in a LGBTQ nightclub and 49 people were dead, and many wounded.
I spent the two weeks working on the beginning of this piece -- an alter to the 49 lives of the individuals out for a night of dancing. The candleabra is of the black pottery of Mexico -- to honor the Latina heritage and culture prominent at this cafe. The poem is by Victor Densmore, a poet friend and neighbor who just sat down and wrote it on the spot after i showed him the work; the poem was the completion.
Offerings to Andrew Wyeth
The paintings that Andrew Wyeth made in Cushing, Maine of the Olsen family are extraordinary. He captures the profound depth of living on earth and the spiritual mystery that accompanies it.

Homebuilding - the beaver pieces
In Vermont their are many beaver homes to ponder and admire; in the Native American cultures the beaver embodies the builder -- "beaver medicine is akin to water and earth energy, and incorporates a strong sense of family and home".
