I wonder where the beautiful unusual pieces of drift wood come from that I search for every summer at Seawald Beach? Most likely it comes from trees that have fallen into the two rivers that border this long beach; the tide and especially storms tumble the wood as it  makes its way into the Atlantic and washes up into the tidal pools. I want to keep it simple by "offering" them back into the world. The wood is saturated, for longevity and beauty,  with pure beeswax, encaustic and pigment.

Pulse Cafe, June 12, 2016

On this day I was driving to Maine for my annual 2-week art camp when I got a call from my daughter Marina in tears --- she told me there had been a mass shooting in a LGBTQ nightclub and 49 people were dead, and many wounded.

I spent the two weeks working on the beginning of this piece -- an alter to the 49 lives of the individuals out for a night of dancing. The candleabra is of the black pottery of Mexico -- to honor the Latina heritage and culture prominent at this cafe. The poem is by Victor Densmore, a poet friend and neighbor who just sat down and wrote it on the spot after i showed him the work; the poem was the completion.

Homebuilding - the beaver pieces

In Vermont their are many beaver homes to ponder and admire; in the Native American cultures the beaver embodies the builder -- "beaver medicine is akin to water and earth energy, and incorporates a strong sense of family and home".
